What types of ads can I place on Facebook via the “Self-served Ad Feature”?

Now merchants can place the two types of Facebook Ads below in Boutir APP:

  • Dynamic Product Ads (DPA) advertise products that people have already been interested in, targeting those users who had viewed / added certain products to the shopping cart but not yet completed the checkout process, according to data collected from online stores by Facebook Pixel.
  • Dynamic Ads for Broad Audience (DABA) can advertise audiences who are interested in similar products in large scale

In other words, Dynamic Product Ads aim at audiences who have been to the online store, or even interested in merchants’ products; and Dynamic Ads for Broad Audience helps merchants with exploring new potential customers.

If merchants wish to reach a wide range of audiences through their ads, we suggest placing the above two types of ad. Merchants can start placing ads with a small budget, and then spend more when the ads start to pay off.


How many products should I select?

Some merchants think that they should just advertise hot items since they are the most popular. They also believe this is the easiest way to attract potential customers to visit their online stores and even buy these hot items. However, there may be different reasons behind whether the products are popular or not, and not every audience is interested in those hot items. All in all, only advertising hot items may not be the best dissemination method of your online store.

In addition, some merchants think that “hoarded goods” are not selling well, so they can simply cut prices to promote them, instead of advertising. Yet, it is not necessary that these “hoarded goods” have no market value. Even if you have advertised for them, it is possible that the ads failed to reach potential customers due to problems in ad settings, resulting in poor sales.

Therefore, regardless of which type of ad you are planning to place in Boutir APP, we recommend selecting all products. This allows Facebook to promote products that are most likely to be of interest to your ad audiences based on its database and calculations, getting the most out of your ads.


How can I write attractive ad content / descriptions?

In fact, there is no single standard for judging the quality of ad copy. However, we believe that the quality of copy can be determined by sales performance. Only good copies can plant ideas in the minds of audiences, which in turn can drive business. Therefore, merchants should try to write different styles of copy, and see if they can drive online business or not by observing the audience’s response. In such cases, merchants can know which kind of copy is better for their online stores.

When writing ad copy, we recommend that you:

  • Think about what your audience wants to get from the ad
  • There are usually many merchants selling similar products in the market, so you should emphasize what makes you unique or why your audience needs to shop at your online store
  • Clearly express the main idea within lines 1-2 of the copy, as the audience may not have the patience and interest to click “see more” to read the copy in detail
  • Let friends and family read the draft copy to get their opinion on it, which may help you revise it

How should I set target customers, advertising budget and period?

For merchants placing Dynamic Ads for Broad Audience (DABA):

Ad audienceYou have to be familiar with the characteristics of your target audience: you must set the age and gender. You can also set your target audience based on language, location, behaviors, income, industries, interests, etc. If you don’t know much about your target audience and only have a small number of customers who have shopped at your online store, we recommend that you set your target audience by clicking on Behaviors > Purchase Behavior > Engaged Shoppers, selecting people who have shopped online as your target audience first. If you don’t know much about the characteristics of your target audience, but you have a group of customers who have shopped at your online store, you can click on Including previous exposure to target customers > Purchased to select people similar to this group of customers as your audience. You can also exclude some customers who have shopped at your online store from the target audience under “Does not include past contact to target customers “. For the product cycle, you can set it to be “the past 90 days” for popular items or “the past 180 days” for less frequently purchased items
Advertising budgetIf there is only one target customer group, the recommended daily budget is $65. If three different target customer groups are set up, the recommended daily budget is $20 for each group, in total $60. If you place Dynamic Product Ads (DPA) at the same time: the expense of Dynamic Ads for Broad Audience (DABA) should account for 80% – 90% of the overall advertising budget, while the rest of the budget should be spent on Dynamic Product Ads (DPA)
Advertising periodAt least 7 days, in order to give you enough data to evaluate the effectiveness of your campaign and decide whether to continue advertising or not

For merchants placing Dynamic Product Ads (DPA):

Ad audienceAfter selecting “View or add to cart, but did not purchase”, please enter the number of days so that the system will find people who have relevant behavior that number of days ago as recipients; we suggest you setting 7 or 14 days
Advertising budgetAt least $20 per day. If you place Dynamic Ads for Broad Audience (DABA) at the same time: the expense of Dynamic Product Ads (DPA) should account for 10% – 20% of the overall advertising budget, while the rest of the budget should be spent on Dynamic Ads for Broad Audience (DABA)
Advertising periodYou may keep on running the advertisement until you think it is not necessary

How should I evaluate the effectiveness of my ads?

You can evaluate Facebook ad performance using different indexes directly in Boutir APP, such as “Ad Impressions”, “Total purchase”, “Return on Advertising Spend (ROAS)”, etc. We believe that if every $1 of advertising cost can bring at least $3 of revenue, it means the advertising is effective.

We suggest you check the performance of your ads every day, so that you can understand the changes in ad performance. This helps determine whether you need to adjust the ad content and audience settings.


If the ad is not well received, how can I improve it?

  • Improve the quality of product photos, so as to ensure that they can clearly show the appearance of the product and attract attention from audience
  • Pay attention to whether the product name is too long, as it will affect readability
  • Make sure that the main idea is clearly stated in lines 1-2 of the ad description, so as to avoid audience giving up on reading the text because it is too long
  • Try to adjust audience settings, such as changing conditions like behaviors, income, industries, interests, etc.
